St. Mark's Birthday Book Club

During the first week of each month, you can donate $20.00 in your child's name, to celebrate their birthday (or any other special occasion)!  Simply print out the form from the link below and return it to the library with your check.

On your child's birthday, they will be asked to choose a new book from our birthday collection, in which we will place a bookplate signifying your child as the official donor.  Summer birthdays, don't worry - we'll celebrate your half birthday.  July birthdays will be honored in January.  August birthdays in February.

We will take your child's picture with their donated book, and place the photo in the hallway by the library so that everyone can wish them a "Happy Birthday".  We will also give them a balloon and a very special certificate that shows they are a special friend to our library!

So help our library grow, join St. Mark's birthday book club.  Click this link to print the Birthday Book Club form.

Book Reviews

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

By: J.K. Rowling

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a book filled with romance, action, friendship, and magic. When Harry turns 17 he is allowed to do magic when ever he wants. He is supposed to return to Hogwarts to finish his seventh and final year. Instead Harry and his friends, Ron and Hermione, go out to search for the last way to kill Voldermort, and the Horcruxes. During their journey, they find out the loyalty of friendship, and how all you need your friends to get you through hard times.
I enjoyed reading this book because of the action. There was action on every page. Reading a big book is sometimes hard because it can be long, but with this book, you will never get bored. I also liked that it was the final book of the Harry Potter series. It tied things together and answered all the questions that have been asked as people read the series.

Johnny Tremain  By: Esther Forbes

Johnny is a 15 year old apprentice who works in a silversmith shop.  In an accident though, he gets his hand burned.  He quits his job and looks for a new job.  He finds a job at the Boston Observer, and meets Rab, a 17 year old boy who becomes Johnny's best Friend.  Together, they overcome the growing tensions of war and face many dangers along the way.  Soon Rab joins the American Army, and leaves Johnny behind.  When Rab is gone, Johnny becomes a spy and information gatherer for famous people along the way.  He even helps Paul Revere by hanging the lanterns in Old North Church to signal that the British were coming by land or by sea.  This exciting novel is for history fans and any good reader.  The book is pretty hard to understand, but is very interesting too.
