Language/Phonics:
We will be learning the letter N n and R r--name, sound, and writing. Identify author, illustrator, cover of the book, title page, title of book and what the story is about. We are learning that pictures have meaning in our stories and charts. Tracking the words in our Songs and Rhymes and Sing with me charts and learning that spaces go between words and understand the print is read from left to right...moving down a row when we come to the end of words.
Math: We are reviewing number 6 and 7 and learning number 8 and how to write them. counting out that many objects, colors, big, little, same, alike and different. Sort by size and create AB patterns. We are learning how to make tally marks. We are learning spatial concepts: above, under, top, bottom, behind, in front, upside down, left, right.
Fine Motor Skills: Holding pencils and crayons correctly, cutting lines and curves. Writing strokes begin at the top and go to the bottom and circles go counter clockwise.
Social Studies: We will learn about weather. How appropriate...with all the snow we have had. Our amazing words are: weather, strom, cold, warm, snow and bending. Not to mention our windy day on Tuesday.
Please Practice at Home:
Writing their name with only the first letter capitalized, holding the pencil correctly.
Practice writing upper and lower case letters...Ii and Bb.
Writing numbers 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
The correct way to hold and cut with scissors.
School rules such as: keeping our feet, hands, face and body to ourselves, sharing our toys, not throwing our toys, and showing respect and manners to each other. Be helpful NOT hurtful. Make good choices.
Good hygiene: keep our fingers out of our mouths and noses.
Important Dates:
Christmas program is Thursday, December in Fellowship Hall at 6:30 p.m.
SPECIAL NOTE: Our Happy Birthday JESUS party will be on Thursday December 17th. We will wear pajamas to school, watch a movie and order breakfast (pancakes, sausage and juice) from McDonald's! Please send $4.00 to cover the cost.
It is an early release day with school ending at 11:00 a.m. PLEASE BE ON TIME. The elementary school will be dismissed at 11:30 and it makes for a smooth transition.
Please let me know if you will be leaving town before we begin our Christmas vacation. I want to be sure your child has everything we have been working on.
